SpartanNash is an American food distributor and grocery store retailer headquartered in Byron Center, Michigan. The company's core businesses include distributing food to independent grocers, military commissaries, and corporate-owned retail stores in 44 states, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. SpartanNash operates 142 corporate-owned retail stores under a number of brands located in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Ohio, many of which were local grocery chains acquired by SpartanNash. In terms of revenue, it is the largest food distributor serving military commissaries and exchanges in the United States. It is known for its Our Family line of products and formally the "Spartan" line of products.

An upset former employee said this in a review "I was here for a very short amount of time but SpartanNash is by far the WORST warehouse I’ve ever worked for. Their warehouse is just utterly disgusting. No one cleans up, there’s trash everywhere making it a safety hazard. People are FLYING on their forklifts or EPJ’s and most of the time don’t even come to a complete stop, I almost got ran over. The only few things this place is missing, are cockroaches, mice/rats, hobos, and whatever else. It’s just so disgusting. Also, the hiring team and I decided that $15.00 an hour was the minimum wage I would take. I was offered the job at $14.50 an hour. For the distance from where I live at, the commute and the job itself was not worth it. Also, it’s a night shift position. They don’t bother to tell you until your interview. You’ve been warned".

"Pay is awful $9 as a store supervisor I have to run a store by myself for that kind of pay when I can be a cashier at any other grocery store for $12 just ringing people up. No store discount. Watched a coworker get hurt the store manager put in for workers comp they fired the girl. Store manager is sexist only hires guys. The assistant manager gets treated like nothing and blamed for everything. Moral is low. The store has almost closed 3 times."

"Incompetent management that is ready to outsource the whole IT department at a given second. There is plenty of talented IT workers from Spartan and Nash. They simply want to hire contractors and dump the rest of the current employees. The contractors they brought in will work 16-18 hour days and expect you to do the same to fix problems. One of the biggest problems in IT is nobody willing to take responsibility of a problem. They keep every employee in the dark and most of the time when projects roll around its to late and damage is already done. There is problems that have gone on for years and continue to ignore them from former and current management. They will find ways to penny pinch everything that an employee does without looking in the mirror and taking a look at the product they sell is very bad. By penny pinch I mean they only clean the restrooms & break rooms twice a week out. Inadequate amount of restrooms available for current associates & no parking. These issues you can address to management and HR and you will continue to be ignored."

"All new management and they don't know what they are doing. All the good selectors got fired now they are forcing the forklift drivers to select. supervisor gives out points for being 5 minutes late etc. Had a better supervisor back then. Now she has run everything into the ground. Many good people fired for petty things. They all use their authority over you and won't listen to anything anyone else has to say. Don't even get me started on how unorganized it is. TONS of food gets thrown In the trash that is damaged cases or strays."

Forced in on days off and forced over for overtime always last minute upper management does not care about you just make rate or they’ll write you up worst job experience I had. Add that to the union doesn’t care about you until you have been there 10 years"

"It’s the worst place to be at. The loaders are given no break. We work anywhere from 15-20 hours a day. It’s just a horrible job. Getting paid 13.54 is NOT worth it at all!"

"I've been an order selector for over 3 months and I've seen a high turn over rate mostly due to how the facility is managed. One day off a week doesn't leave you alot of time for your family or friends or anything outside of work. The powered equipment they give you to use is broken down and barely works and you are still expected to meet your productivity goals. Not a high emphasis on safety either, very unsafe work environment. Lots of injuries due to negligence. **I would avoid this job unless you have no family and no life and don't mind working 6 days a week for 10 to 12 hours a day."

"Bad management and hours. You are just a number. Corporate is worthless and dont recognize good work ethic. Poorly pay their employees. Cut a lot of corners too save money, such as not hiring associates too cover hours and tasks so onlu get one day off and work you night and day. So work a lot of crazy hours."

"Worked 20 years for them...don’t expect to survive on the hours they give you. If you are a department manager you might get by but don’t expect to get full time benefits. Bonus forget it...you could be in great shape going into the last of the fiscal year and in the last 30 days it will all disappear suddenly. Happened year after year."

"he sleeps in pharmacy area thats like a closet and behind starbucks at bar stools always on a laptop yelling at it uses staff break room he puts carts away and puts food away he DOESNT WORK THERE. not the best hygiene dont like some1 with bad hygiene touching food i might buy. ---management lacks communication, underpay u(they told me they was underpaying me), lack employees but expect u to make up for it,part time but working like a full time, never stick to one thing always switching stuff up like they are a new company. many more problems to list but i gtg"

"Bad training an no real trainer are training program. They give you a few hours of training and then you are on your on. You ask management for help they act like it's your fault. Management only care about production not safety as they try to pretend they do. Never talk about team are team work. The moral is very low there."

"I was a meat department manager. I was not given near enough labor hours to do anything. But when some VIPs were coming to the store I would get all kinds of help from other stores. So my department would look great. Then back to normal. Then store management would get on my case and wonder why everything look bad. Then I was fired while I was in the hospital, still fighting them in court.NoneHours expected to work, work load, and help"

"No senior leadership. No training. High priced, minimal staffing. Expect you to do work of 3 people. Hours are often evening late shifts. There is no support. Computer systems are outdated, always off line. New programs not explained"

"Managment sucks it's not the cleanest warehouse around. Most of the equip (pallet Jack's and forklift ) dont work. Would have to work alot of 12 hour days due to the fact of not having enough staff to effectively pull the volume for the day the turnover rate is high and theres not chance for career advancement I wouldn't recommend this job to anyone."
